A Word from Sam Hill - 1XI Captain

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up
The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time

This is the start of a new era for Wimbledon Ladies 1st Eleven. Gone is the past, and look to the future.

Me as a hockey player
I am an extremely competitive person who does not like to lose. This is definitely portrayed in the way I play hockey. I am not the friendliest person on the pitch in fact some might call me a little aggressive and scary!! In my opinion you make your friends off the hockey pitch not on. There is plenty of time to socialise and party in the bar. While in the pitch it is to be focused, determined and committed to the challenge.

Me as a WHC member
I have been at the hockey club form a very young age actually to be precise 11 years old. During my time I have been very privileged to have had quality coaching and had the opportunity to play with some very experienced players of county, regional and international standard. Our results have had a bit of a blip in the past couple of seasons, however the quality of players and support of the club has remained just a strong.

Wimbledon Hockey Club did not only introduce me to the world of hockey but also the world of beer. I remember at the age of 15 my parents saying, ‘’Course you can go to the hockey club on Saturday night. At least it keeps you out of trouble and you will looked after by the likes of Ella, Squeeze, Boggy and Grayser’’ (to name just a few) Little did they know that the way I was looked after was to take part in drinking games, boat races, strawpedos and plenty more.

WHC is a club that offers everything; a good level of hockey, an excellent club and clubhouse and a superb social structure. As you have probably gathered WHC is very close to my heart. I am going to do everything I can do in my powers to get the ladies 1st eleven back up to where they belong and deserve to be.

Me as Myself
Away from hockey I am Head of PE at an all girls’ school in Chelsea where I have been working for the past 3 years. This keeps me very busy during the week so at the weekend I like to relax and of course party the nights away. I am an extremely sociable person and always up for a beer or two.

HydroActive Women's Run

On Sept 15th, 6 of our committee members took part in the sponsored HydroActive Womens 5km run in Hyde Park. It was a great day, and between us we sucessfully raised >£300 for the club and >£100 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Despite a couple of hangovers, from the Presidents Ball, we optimistically started at the front with the club runners and all finished with very respectable times ~ 27 minutes. There are some great photo’s in the Photo Gallery.
