AGM highlights
For those who claimed that they had a prior engagement watching paint dry – here are the highlights of what you missed:-
• The Committee report was approved.
• The proposed budget for 2008/09 of £42,000, over and above subscriptions due to The Wimbledon Club, was presented and discussed. This sum was required, in the main, to pay for coaching and management expertise. This budget was approved as well as the Men’s Section collecting all subscriptions by standing order.
• VP’s are appointed to acknowledge their efforts and service to the hockey club. The nominees who were all unanimously elected were David March, Brian Grout, Nigel Fuller, Johnny Hobbs, Dean Manicom and Aram Simonian
• 125th anniversary celebrations reminder
• Ben Rea and Chris Baker had attended several strategy meetings with KCS over several months. Unforeseen planning issues had delayed building work but it was now believed that final plans would be submitted to the local planning office in September 2008. KCS were hoping that the new “Tiger Turf “ would be laid by January 2009.
• Over 37s paying in Veterans -Responding to a question from Neil Dobson (an interested party next year) Creedy said that there would be no compulsion for over 37 year old to become Vets or Masters but it was envisaged that in order to make available player positions in the club for young up and coming members that the Veterans section may well need expanding.
• There was a long discussion regarding the continued viability of honouring fixtures with certain clubs where violent conduct had taken place in the past. Creedy and Holls undertook to take appropriate action by consulting with other clubs who have experienced similar problems and monitoring in detail the position this year and taking matters to the league immediately.
